Onam is the biggest festival of Kerela,a state in the Southern region of India. It is also known as” God’s Own Country”.Onam is a harvest festival and is celebrated through out the state with fanfare and enthusiasm by all sections of society. Legend has is that during the reign of a mighty asura (demon) king, called Mahabali, Kerala witnessed its golden era.The subjects were satisfied as every need of theirs were taken care of by their king. Though he was a good administrator, he was also very egoistic. This eventually led to his downfall. He was very attached to his subjects. In spite of his ego,he was a man of virtuous character. So, the Gods granted him a boon by which he could come, once a year, and visit his people, whom he loved so dearly.Onam is the day on which Bali fulfills his promise. People wake up early in the morning, take a bath, wear new dresses and worship God, and partake a feast to mark the Onam celebrations.
We, at Sarah’s collection have selected and put together ,a traditional look, to celebrate the spirit of Onam.
