Apple Cider Vinegar, an aide to Weight Loss

Apple Cider Vinegar is becoming a top of the shelf product not just in up town supermarkets but also in the corner grocery stores. I was amazed at how the product goes off the shelves in regular intervals. Any one who is health conscious and aware of its benefits make a beeline for this health wonder. The product has been around for long, but only recognized now for its value, other than as a kitchen item . It goes back as far back as 400 B.C when Hippocrates, known as the father of modern medicine, prescribed apple cider vinegar (ACV) to treat a range of illnesses.. Besides, being an important food ingredient in salad dressings, sauces, marinades, chutneys, and preservatives, its medicinal properties attract the health conscious.
Apple cider vinegar’s most beloved and well known benefit may be that of weight loss.

How is it made:

Apple cider vinegar is made by a two way fermentation process.
Firstly, the apples are cut or crushed. Yeast is then added to the crushed apples to convert their sugar into alcohol.
Secondly, bacterias are added to ferment the alcohol into acetic acid. This process traditionally takes about a month.
Acetic acid which is the main active component of apple cider vinegar, helps promote fat loss in several ways. It helps in reducing fat storage, increasing fat burning, improving blood sugar and insulin response, as well as reducing appetite by increasing fullness and reducing calorie intake. The acetic acid extracts iron from food, which then improves the flow of oxygen through the body’s systems, enabling it to function properly. It also contains water and trace amounts of other acids, such as malic acid .One tablespoon (15 ml) contains about three calories and very little carbohydrate.

How to take ACV for weight loss:

Ingredients:
6 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
1 teaspoon ginger paste.
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper(or black).
2 teaspoon honey.
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder. (Cinnamon discourages fat storage by suppressing the blood glucose which occurs just after meals. Together, the two make an effective weight loss treatment).
Mix well. You can keep the mixture and store.

For those who are trying apple cider vinegar for the first time, it is advised to take it a little at a time, maybe a teaspoon of it to a cup of water.. You can drink it in the morning or later on during the day between meals. But don’t over do it. I usually have it on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. To kick start the metabolism and influence the feeling of fullness, it’s best to drink it about an hour before your meal.
Caution: ACV is very acidic, so you need to dilute it to protect your teeth, throat and the lining of your stomach. Don’t drink it undiluted. Alternatively, rinse your mouth with a mixture of water and baking soda, which will counteract the acidity in your mouth and protect your teeth.
