Most children are fussy about their food especially when it comes to eating vegetables and fruits and my children are no exception. When they come home for their holidays they would want good home cooked meals minus these rich source of vitamins and other nutrients. And my son has a permanent tag line”I am allergic to this”.And it baffles me,being a mother not knowing about his allergies!I believe a good healthy breakfast fuels you up and gets you ready for a new day. Whatever the breakfast menu,I try to whip up a smoothie for them when ever possible.

My son stays in a boarding school and they have what you call a”Parent meeting” every sunday where parents get to meet their wards, have lunch with them and spend two hours with their boys.My son, as I said is a fussy eater, loves good and rich food, continental dishes being his favourite. As such, we take one continental dish, some times as a starter and which my Mom takes care of, while I concentrate on other dishes,a drink being one. I decided not to indulge him with aerated drinks,so smoothies and shakes were the best options. When I came across fresh figs in the neighbourhood fruit

stall, though expensive, I decided to buy and make smoothie for him.

Benefits of Figs:
-Figs are one of the richest plant sources of a variety of vitamins and minerals, including Vitamins A,B,C,K, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron and other nutrients.

-Figs are low in calories .One ounce of dried figs have 2-3 grams of fiber.

How to make Fig and Honey Smoothie:

-Take 5-6 fresh figs. You can also use dried figs(it is called “anjeer” in India) if fresh ones are not available. Soak the dried ones for at least half an hour before making the smoothie.
– Milk-1 cup.
– Honey to taste.
– Dried fruits for garnishing.
– Vanilla ice cream(optional).
– Few pieces of fresh figs for garnishing.

You can also add other fruits like banana which I did.  I also added some chia seeds instead of dried fruits. Mix all the ingredients together in a blender till smooth and frothy. Garnish with fresh figs or dried fruits. All done in a few minutes and a cool healthy smoothie is ready to enjoy.
