The Maroon Room

The Maroon Room, Guwahati

If one wants to explore Asia on a plate then, ‘The Maroon Room’ is the right place to be. My children and I Love Pan Asian food and indulging in Asian cuisine is never a regret. So when we were in Guwahati recently, someone recommended this place and therefore decided to have our Christmas dinner here.

The Entrance:

The first impression is the last one they say. And yes The Maroon Room entrance did give one a feeling of the good and authentic platter that we can expect here.

The Food:

We already had our fair share of wine in a friend’s place and therefore decided to give it  a miss here. Besides, it was pretty late so we ordered our dinner straight away.

Starters:

For starters, my son ordered Spicy Avacado Sushi while I settled for an Asparagus Tempura. Needless to say it was yum!No such thing as too much sushi!

We went on to order the maroon room signature dishes which was worth the price. Served in stone dishes and straight from the fire, the food had the right blend of spices . Every spoonful or should I say every chopstick brought out the taste so well, enough to tantalize one’s senses.

Korean Bibimbap: I tried this Korean dish that had pork, zucchini, veggies, jasmine rice, shitake mushrooms wth bibimbap sauce, topped with a fried egg. The aroma of Asian cuisine is simply irresistible. This is a Korean rice dish, served as a bowl of warm white rice with topped, sautéed or blanched seasonal vegetables along with meat, pork or beef.

Indonesian Nasi: Fried rice with pieces of meat and/or vegetables, and an assortment of seasonings such as sweet soy sauce. Hubby opted for a vegetarian Nasi that had lots of vegetables ,,crackers, peanut sauce and green salad. Nice and warm, the dish was a symphony of flavors that danced on the palate.

Home style red Thai curry: Served with jasmine rice and red Thai curry, the dish was sweet, spicy creamy ..all in one bowl. My son loved it.

The Ambience:

The ambience was lively and  the decor which reflected all things Asian, was fairly good. They boast of the largest bar in the North East of India  as well as LIVE performances by local artists. We had a DJ belting out songs and a few youngsters dancing and keeping up to the spirit of Christmas.

The Take Away:

Asian food is a symphony of flavors that will leave you wanting for more. And the ambience food and courteous staff will definitely want you to go back for more to “The Maroon Room”!

Kudos to The Maroon Room team!
